Flagler Claims Series Opener With Baseball

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Jarratt Mobley's RBI single with one down in the top of the second gave the UNC Pembroke baseball team an early lead, but Peach Belt Conference-leading Flagler countered with three runs of their own in the home half of the frame on the way to a 9-1 victory over the Braves on Thursday evening at Drysdale Field.
 
It was the eighth loss in the last 10 outings for the Braves (19-24, 9-16 PBC) who remained two games back of eighth-place Lander in the race for the final berth into the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The triumph marked the 10th-straight win for the Saints (26-17, 17-8) who have captured nine-straight games at home as well.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 2 Elijah Helton doubled to lead off the frame for the Braves, and the visitors took a 1-0 lead when Jarratt Mobley hammered a one-strike offering from Flagler starter Cooper Wallace into centerfield.
BOT 2 Flagler loaded the bases with its first four at-bats in the home half of the second, and knotted the score back up when Frankie Martello scampered home on a costly wild pitch with two outs. Franco Camacho followed with a two-run double to the gap in left field to give the Saints the lead for good.
BOT 7 UNCP reliever Randy Floyd sat down the first two batters he faced in the seventh, but Flagler used a pair of walks as well as a single by Jason Moore to load the bases minutes later. Sean Lawlor gave the hosts four insurance runs in the next at-bat with a grand slam to right field.
