Baseball Pummels Francis Marion To Ward Off Series Sweep

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team tacked up 19 hits and scored three or more runs in six different innings, and the Braves fought off a weekend sweep by visiting Francis Marion with a 23-10 victory over the Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.

The result snapped a three-game skid for the Braves (18-19, 8-13 PBC) who will continue a nine-game home stand on Tuesday with a rematch against third-ranked North Greenville. The setback snapped a three-game road win streak for the Patriots (22-16, 13-11).

TOP 2 The Patriots got a run back with their first at-bat in the second when Leniel Gonzalez hammered a full-count offering from Tanner Routh over the fence centerfield.
BOT 3 The Braves sent 11 batters to the plate in the third and used seven hits and a costly error by the visitors to plate six more runs. Jarratt Mobley (single), Bobby Dixon (2-run double), Trevor Clemons (single), River Ryan (single) and Luke Jackson (double) all drove in runs in the frame.
BOT 4 UNCP tacked up the remaining runs it would need in the fourth. Connor Grainger (walk), Jarratt Mobley (walk) and Bobby Dixon (hit by pitch) all drew free passes to load up the bases, and the Braves pushed across their 11th and 12th runs of the game on a RBI knock from Zach Ghelfi, as well as an ensuing fielding error. A RBI single from Trevor Clemons padded the lead out to a dozen runs, 13-1.
