Volleyball Too Much For Elizabeth City State

PEMBROKEBrianna Warren and Shannon Skryd both notched a team-best eight kills to help the UNC Pembroke volleyball team roll past visiting Elizabeth City State, 3-0, on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The triumph marked the third-straight win for the Braves (3-2) who matched the program's longest win streak since the 2014 campaign with the result as well. The setback kept the Vikings (0-1) winless in the 11-game series with the Black & Gold.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-20 The Braves hit .219 at the net and committed seven hitting errors, and that allowed the Vikings to hang around for a good portion of the opening set. The Vikings rattled off five-straight points to eventually grab a 10-8 lead midway through, but the Black & Gold managed to stay with the visitors until scoring seven of the last eight points in the set.
SET 2 I 25-13 UNC Pembroke continued their momentum into the middle set and scored points in bunches to overwhelm the visitors. A kill from Elly Hicks capped a 4-0 run that gave the hosts a 12-3 advantage, and UNCP led 16-4 after another four-point run. Elizabeth City State trimmed a 12-point deficit back to just six, 18-12, after an attack error by the Black & Gold, but the Braves closed out the set with a   7-1 run to keep control.
SET 3 I 25-9 The Braves hit a blistering .435 in the third and final set, but it was a 13-0 scoring run by the hosts that dealt most of the damage.
