MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-19 Chowan strung together six-straight points and eventually took a 7-4 advantage after a service ace from Anixa Rosa-Martinez, but UNCP grabbed seven of the next nine points to swing the momentum back in its favor. The Hawks got to within three points, 16-13, on a kill from Rosa-Martinez, but the Braves kept the visitors at arm's length the rest of the way out.
SET 2 I 25-14 UNC Pembroke hit at a match-best .286 in the second set and committed just two hitting errors to take a commanding advantage in the match. The Hawks sliced into a three-point deficit via a service error by UNCP, but the Braves responded by tacking up seven-straight points to forge a 14-5 lead. The Braves led by as many as a dozen points, 22-10, following a kill by Brianna Warren, and hit cruise control the rest of the way.
SET 3 I 20-25 Chowan got back into the match with an impressive third set that watched them register a .375 hitting percentage. The Braves took a 13-9 lead on one of just two hitting errors by the Hawks in the set, but Chowan responded with a 6-1 run to storm ahead. The hosts took a 19-17 lead courtesy of a kill from Elly Hicks, but the Hawks closed out the set with an 8-1 run, including the final six points.
SET 4 I 25-15 The Braves closed out the night with a solid fourth set, utilizing a pair of service aces, as well as a paltry -.031 hitting percentage by the visitors, to run their win streak to four. The squads split the first six points of the fourth set, but the Braves scored seven-straight points after that to fuel the outcome. The Hawks closed to within five points, 13-8, on a ball handling error by UNCP, but the Braves answered again – this time with an 8-2 run that allowed them to go out in front 21-10.
