Eckerd Stops Volleyball’s Six-Match Win Streak

FLORENCE, S.C. – Eckerd hit nearly .350 at the net and used a solid defensive effort to snap the UNC Pembroke volleyball team's six-match win streak with a straight-sets victory over the Braves on Saturday evening at the FMU Invitational in Florence, S.C.

The setback snapped a historic winning skein for the Braves (6-3) who matched the program's longest victory string in 25 years with a 3-0 triumph over Converse earlier in the day. It was the seventh-straight victory for the Tritons (7-1) who have a win over a nationally-ranked opponent to their credit this season as well.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 15-25 Eckerd registered 17 kills and hit at an eye-popping .455 rate in taking the opening set of the night. The squads split the first 16 points of the first set, but the Tritons put up five-straight points after that to take control. SET 2 I 13-25 The Tritons scored four of the second set's first five points and never looked back. Eckerd led 11-3 after a service ace from Dana Dull, and then tacked up five-straight points a short time later on the way to eventually building a 16-4 advantage. The Tritons led by as many as 13 points, 24-11, after Sarah Johnshoy's kill.
SET 3 I 18-25 The Braves led 12-10 thanks to an attack error by the Tritons, but Eckerd righted its ship and posted five-straight points to go out in front, 15-10. UNCP evened the score up at 18 apiece on the second of two-straight kills by Raven Oates, but the Tritons closed out the match with seven-straight points.
