MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-22 The Braves hit at a .355 rate in the opening set, and benefited from a pair of 3-0 runs to key the win. UNCP led 7-3 after a service ace from Morgan Gibbs, but Wingate stormed back and eventually pulled to within a point, 9-8, after a service error by the visitors. Three-straight points by the Black & Gold, including two via hitting errors by the Bulldogs, would pad the lead back out to four points. Wingate, again, pulled to within a point after Reese Beckley's kill made it a 17-16 affair, but the Braves answered with another 3-0 run.
SET 2 I 25-20 Wingate registered five service aces and used an 8-2 run midway through to even things back up with a 25-16 victory in set two. The Bulldogs scored five of the first six points in the set, including three via service ace, and did not look back. The hosts led by as many as a dozen points, 23-11, following a kill from Anne Abernathy.
SET 3 I 25-22 UNCP hit -.194 in the third set, and Wingate benefited from nine attack errors and a quartet of blocks on the way to a 25-8 win. The squads split the first four points of the set, but the Bulldogs used a 12-1 run after that to pull away for good. The Braves tacked up two-straight points to pull to within eight, 15-7, but the Bulldogs reeled off seven-straight points after that to pad their lead out to 22-7.
SET 3 I 12-25 The Bulldogs hit better than .300 in the fourth and final set, but it was the fast start that carried the Bulldogs to the match-clinching victory in set four. Wingate raked in seven of the set's first nine points, and forged a double-digit lead, 18-8, following a service ace. The hosts pushed their advantage out to a baker's dozen, 23-10, on an attack error from UNCP.
