Volleyball Swept By Belmont Abbey At Wingate Tri-Match

WINGATE – Surging Belmont Abbey hit better than .368 at the net and utilized a pair of key runs along the way to fuel a straight-sets victory over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Tuesday afternoon at the Wingate Tri-Match.
 
The result marked the second-straight loss for the Braves (8-9) who fell below the .500 mark for the first time since opening weekend. It was the fourth-straight victory for the Crusaders (4-9) who have now topped a pair of Peach Belt Conference squads (Lander) in the last four days.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 20-25 Belmont Abbey hit an impressive .405 in the opening set and used a mild 4-1 run midway through to pull away from the Braves. The Braves led 7-6 after a kill from Brianna Warren, but the Crusaders scored the next three points to take a lead they would not relinquish. UNCP pulled to within a pair of points, 14-12, on a kill from Brianna Warren, but Belmont Abbey collected four of the next five points to take control.
SET 2 I 20-25 The Braves scored the first point of the second set, but Belmont Abbey answered with two-straight point after that and did not trail again. The Crusaders, again, tacked up a 4-1 run to eventually forge an 18-14 advantage, and padded their lead out to five points, 21-16, on a service error by UNCP.
SET 3 I 16-25 The Crusaders utilized five attack errors by the Braves, as well as a late 7-2 run, to close out the sweep. The squads split the first 20 points of the third set, but the Crusaders separated themselves by grabbing five of the next six points. A 5-2 run by Belmont Abbey over the next few minutes added more separation in the scoring columns.
