HOW IT HAPPENED |
1ST QUARTER |
UNCP drove 83 yards on nine plays on the game's opening possession, and used a 25-yard touchdown pass from Josh Jones to Faheem Diaab to take the early lead despite a blocked extra point. UNCP 6, Limestone 0
The Saints answered on the ensuing possession as D.J. Phillips engineered a 4-play, 65-yard scoring drive that was capped on Jerko'ya Patton's 38-yard touchdown gallop around left tackle. The ensuing 2-point conversion try went for naught. UNCP 6, Limestone 6
Limestone used a pair of key 3rd down conversions to keep its next possession alive, and inevitably got a 20-yard touchdown run from Jerko'ya Patton to take the lead for good. Limestone 13, UNCP 6 |
2ND QUARTER |
The Saints got a big 76-yard run to set themselves up with a 1 st-and-Goal situation, but the drive stalled from there and Limestone settled for a 22-yard field goal. However, a roughing the kicker call on the Braves gave the drive new life, and Limestone tacked up their third touchdown of the game on a 2-yard scoring drive by Malik Brooks. Limestone 20, UNCP 6
The Braves put the final points of the opening half on the scoreboard thanks to an impressive 13-play, 83-yard scoring drive that milked more than 7-1/2 minutes off of the clock. Josh Sheridan's 4-yard touchdown run capped the drive that saw Josh Jones complete all three of his pass attempts for 47 yards. Limestone 20, UNCP 13
|
3RD QUARTER |
Limestone needed just 70 seconds to pad their lead in the second half. Quarterback D.J. Phillips went 2-for-2 for 67 yards on the first two plays of the opening possession in the second half, and Jerko'ya Patton finished off the drive with a 1-yard dive. Limestone 27, UNCP 13
UNCP kept pace in the contest by turning the ensuing possession into points. Josh Jones threw for 50 yards on 5-for-6 passing to key the 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive that was culminated on a 5-yard scoring run by the sophomore quarterback. The extra point was blocked, however. Limestone 27, UNCP 19 |
4TH QUARTER |
The Braves bridged the third and fourth quarters with an 11-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that got the hosts to within a lone score. Josh Jones opened the drive with a 41-yard pass to Quay Threatt, and finished off the drive himself with an 8-yard touchdown run to the right side. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good. Limestone 27, UNCP 25
Despite having their lead trimmed to just two points, the Saints did not flinch and answered right away on backup quarterback Alec Morton's 75-yard touchdown strike to Juwan Scott. Limestone 34, UNCP 25
A promising drive by the Braves stalled at midfield, and Limestone would use the momentum swing to put the final points of the night on the board. D.J. Phillips completed both of his pass attempts on the drive, including a 17-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Smith. Limestone 41, UNCP 25 |
