COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman Ketlyn Rodriguez Matos shattered school record in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Breaststroke, and the UNC Pembroke swimming team won all 10 events on the way to a convincing 128-48 victory at Columbia College on Saturday morning.
                                      
The triumph marked the first time in the 4-year history of the swimming program that the Black & Gold posted a win in its season opener. The result also got the Braves on the board in the series with the Cougars who had won all three previous meetings prior to Saturday.
 
Rodriguez Matos, a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, shattered the previous school record in the 200-yard Individual Medley by nearly seven seconds. Her time in the 100-yard Breaststroke eclipsed teammate Victoria Brousseau's previous school record by more than three seconds.
 
The Braves will be back in action again on October 5 when they head to Greensboro for the Guilford Invitational. Start time at the Greensboro Aquatic Center is scheduled for 9 a.m.
