Wrestling Perfect In Rout Of Spartanburg Methodist

| By:
PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team posted seven wins via pin and took advantage of forfeits in three different weight classes as the Braves wrapped up the home portion of their 2019-20 regular season schedule with a 60-0 rout of Spartanburg Methodist on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The result marked the fourth-straight home win for the Black & Gold (13-9) who have now registered consecutive shutouts for the first time in program history. The 60 team points – the maximum for a winning team in a collegiate dual meet – shattered a 12-year-old school record for UNCP who toppled St. Andrews, 58-0, midway through the 2007-08 campaign.

The victory highlighted senior night for the Braves who honored their Class of 2020 – Joseph Ballantyne, Adrian Davenport, Nick Kee, Tyler Makosy, Jayquon McEntyre, Brandon Sloop and Kaleb Warner – prior to the start of the dual.

Forfeits at both 125 and 133 pounds handed the Braves a quick 12-0 lead to start the night, but the hosts did not let up after that. The next seven matches resulted in pins for UNCP, including a first-period pin by Makosy that handed the Ijamsville, Md., his 100th career victory.

The Braves will close out the regular season portion of their 2019-20 slate on Friday when they head to Elkins, W.Va., to take on Davis & Elkins (8-7) in the McDonnell Center. Wrestling action is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
