Baseball Rattles Chowan To Close Out Home Stand

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team tacked up 10 or more hits for the fifth time in the last six games, and used a 5-run fifth inning to take the lead for good on the way to a 14-3 win over visiting Chowan on Wednesday afternoon at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The result put an emphatic bow on a season-opening eight-game home stand for the Braves (6-2) who crossed the 10-run plateau for the fifth time this season as well. It was the 19th-straight series loss for the Hawks (3-4) who have not registered a win over UNCP since the 2008 season.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 1 Trevor Clemons doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning, and Gage Hammonds followed with a 2-run blast in the next at-bat to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
TOP 5 Tristan Council hit a solo homer on a two-strike offering to lead off the fifth, and Tyler Jones gave the Hawks a lead on a two-out RBI single later in the frame.
BOT 5 Garrett Littleton and Gage Hammonds both singled to get two runners aboard for the Black & Gold, and Ethan Baucom gave the Braves the lead for good with a 3-run shot to the trees in left field. Bobby Dixon singled with the next at-bat, and Jarratt Mobley made it a 5-run frame for the Braves with a blast to left field.

The Braves will lift the lid on the Peach Belt Conference portion of their 2020 schedule this weekend when they head to Georgia for a weekend set with Columbus State (5-2, 0-0 PBC). The squads will open the series with a 4 p.m. tilt on Friday.
