Soccer Wins Battle Of I-95 Against Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – Multi-goal performances from Naomi Fountain and Abigail Lowry helped fuel the offense for the UNC Pembroke soccer team on Wednesday evening with a 5-1 victory over Francis Marion at Murray G. Hartzler Soccer Field.
 
The Braves (9-3-0, 8-0-0 CC), who still remain in sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas standings, have allowed just four goals in league play this season. The Patriots (2-10-0, 2-5-0 CC) have now dropped their last five outings. 


 
SCORING SUMMARY
11' Naomi Fountain took advantage of a rebounded shot and poked in the first goal of the match.
42' Rilee Seering played a ball up the field to Abigail Lowry who fired off a shot from 13 yards out into the back of the net.
49' Naomi Fountain played a blocked shot and knocked in her second goal of the night from 14 yards out.
62' Anna Grossheim's free kick was perfectly placed into the box and Rilee Seering flicked a header into the goal.
65' JG Garon dribbled down into the box and blasted a shot from 15 yards out the was just out of reach of Chiara Coppin.
75' Anna Grossheim set Abigail Lowry up inside the box to add to the Braves lead
 
TOP BRAVES
+ Abigail Lowry netted her fourth goal of the season. Lowry's two-goal performance marked a career-high in goals scored as well her first multi-goal game.
+ Naomi Fountain's goal in the 11th minute of action marked her first goal of the season. Fountain has now logged three collegiate goals, but this was also her first multi-goal game. 
+ Anna Grossheim and Rilee Seering each recorded two assists. Seering matched a career-high with assists, while it was Grossheim's first multi-assist outing. 
NOTABLES
+ The Braves improve to 3-5 when playing in Florence, S.C., but this was the second straight win on the road against the Patriots.
+ The Black & Gold have five straight matches on the road. The last loss on the road came to a 2-0 loss to Queens on September 9.
+ UNCP fired off 21 shots and limited FMU to just six shots. Only one of Francis Marion's shots was on goal.
   
UP NEXT
The Braves will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Emmanuel (3-8-0, 2-5-0 CC) to Pembroke for Youth Day. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Lumbee River EMC Stadium and admission is free.
