Soccer Tops Emmanuel, Runs Win Streak To Nine

PEMBROKE – Emilia Dingwall's 13th minute penalty kick gave the UNC Pembroke soccer team its first deficit inside league play this season, but the Braves responded with multi-goal efforts from freshmen Anna Grossheim and Abigail Lowry on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Lions on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The result helped the Braves (10-3-0, 9-0-0 CC) push their win streak out to nine games, which matched both the 2003 and 2016 squads for the second-longest winning skein in the history of the program. It was the third loss in the last four outings for Emmanuel (3-9-0, 2-6-0) who fell to 0-2-0 all-time in the series with the Black & Gold.

SCORING SUMMARY
13' A foul inside the 18-yard box set up a penalty kick opportunity for the Lions, and Emilia Dingwall delivered with a laser shot to the left side.
19' Anna Grossheim collected a pass from Anna Grossheim at the top of the box and fired a shot to the far side that easily escaped the fingertips of goalkeeper Olivia Weider.
23' Ashleigh Harris dribbled into space on the far side before serving across the penalty area to the waiting head of Abigail Lowry who redirected the service inside the far post.
32' An Emmanuel foul deep in its defensive third set up a direct kick situation and Anna Grossheim punched a 25-yard shot underneath a diving Olivia Weider to cap the first-half scoring.
79' Ashleigh Harris made a nifty move to get past the Emmanuel backline, but her 18-yard strike caught the crossbar. Abigail Lowry hauled in the deflection, however, and finished off the opportunity.
