Volleyball Posts Road Sweep At Barton

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team registered 43 kills, including a match-best 11 from freshman Katelyn West, to fuel a sweep (25-15, 25-23, 25-22) of home-standing Barton on Friday evening in Wilson Gymnasium.

The triumph marked the second-straight win for the Braves (18-8, 10-2 CC) who matched the 2014 squad for the most road wins (7) in more than a decade. The setback snapped a two-match win streak for the Bulldogs (7-9, 4-7) who have now dropped nine-straight sets in the series with the Black & Gold.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-15 The hosts tacked up three-straight points to forge an early 4-3 advantage, but UNCP responded with three consecutive points of their own to take the lead for good. The Black & Gold padded its lead to as many as seven points, 17-10, following a kill from Brianna Warren, and then raked in the final four points of the set to ice the stanza.
SET 2 I 25-23 Barton led for a majority of the second set and forged a late 22-19 lead with two consecutive points, but the momentum would swing violently over to the Black & Gold after that. Erin O'Donnell's kill moments later marked the beginning of a five-point run by the Braves, including four via kill, before the hosts stopped the bleeding on a kill from Caroline Schoonover. A kill from Katelyn West seconds later, however, sealed the comeback win.
SET 3 I 25-22 The Braves hit a match-best .239 in the third set to finish off the team win in style. Barton put up four-straight points early on to grab a 5-2 lead, but UNCP eventually used a 5-0 run to pull ahead for good. The Bulldogs made it a two-point affair, 21-19, late in the set, but traded points with the Bulldogs the rest of the way out to wrap the night in Black & Gold.
