Soccer Pushes Victory Streak To 11 With Win Over Southern Wesleyan

PEMBROKE – Anna Grossheim's goal just 13 seconds into the contest gave the UNC Pembroke soccer team an early advantage that it never relinquished as the Braves went on to win 4-1 over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The victory for the Braves (12-3-0, 10-0-0 CC) marked the 11th consecutive win this season, which now matches a program best run of success originally posted by the 2008 squad. The setback for the Warriors (2-11-1, 2-8-0 CC) marked the fourth-straight loss this season.

SCORING SUMMARY
1' Alexis Pittman and Ashleigh Harris got the offense started from the kickoff after playing a ball to Anna Grossheim who fired in the first goal of the game.
10' Naomi Fountain worked the defense down and crossed the ball into the box for Alexis Pittman who booted the ball out of the reach of the goalie.
32' Anna Grossheim's corner kick was perfectly placed to Kennedy Rucker who put the Braves ahead 3-0.
61' UNCP capitalized off of another corner kick from Anna Grossheim as Brianna De Coteau scored the final Braves goal.
78' Ashley Allen dribbled around the defensive and sent one to the back of the net.

TOP BRAVES
+ Grossheim's goal 13 seconds into play marked the fastest goal in program history. Grossheim bested teammate Rilee Seering's goal just 19 seconds into the win over Chowan earlier this season. The freshman has now logged 11 goals this season.
+ Alexis Pittman tallied her fifth goal of the season. The senior's goal was her first since a 5-0 victory at King.
+ Kennedy Rucker and Brianna De Coteau each recorded their first goals of the season.  It was the second career goal for Rucker, but the first collegiate goal for De Coteau.
NOTABLES

+ UNCP's 11-game win streak matches the longest in program history. The 2008 squad strung together 11-straight wins from October 1 to November 7. The 2016 squad registered a program-best 12-game unbeaten streak from September 2014 to October 26.
+ The Braves have now outscored opponents, 44-6, over the last 11 contests.
+ The Black & Gold registered a season-best 40 shots. 21 of which were on target - also a season high.
