PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke soccer team had a big upper-hand in the shot column on the evening, but visiting Mount Olive used a pair of first half goals and a bend-but-not-break defensive effort to hand the UNC Pembroke soccer a 2-1 setback on Wednesday evening at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
The setback snapped a school record 11-game win streak for the Braves (12-4-0, 10-1-0 CC) who will now need a bit of help if they hope to secure the program's first regular season conference title. The result helped the Trojans (13-0-2, 10-0-1) push their unbeaten streak out to 18 games dating back to the Spring 2021 campaign.
The Braves remain in the hunt for the 2021 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, but will now need some help. UNCP must register a victory in its road outing with Belmont Abbey on Saturday, while also hoping for a loss or a tie by Mount Olive in its road game with Emmanuel. A UNCP win, coupled with a loss by the Trojans, would give the Braves the title outright. A win by the Black & Gold and a Mount Olive/Emmanuel draw would equate to a shared conference title.
