Soccer Breezes Past King To Stay Unbeaten In League Play

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The UNC Pembroke soccer team used defensive miscues to net a pair of first half goals, and then solidified the final outcome with three more scores in the second half, on the way to a 5-0 victory over King on Saturday afternoon at Parks Field.

The result marked the seventh-straight victory for the Braves (8-3-0, 7-0-0 CC) who have outscored opponents 30-3 over the last three weeks, while also registering five shutouts. It was the fifth loss in the last six outings for the Tornado (3-6-0, 2-4-0) who fell to 4-4-0 at home this season with the setback as well.

SCORING SUMMARY
20' A King defender broke a scoreless deadlock when she inadvertently tapped a ball past her own goalkeeper while attempting to push the ball over the touch line.
39' A handball inside the 18-yard box set up a penalty kick situation for the Braves, and Ashleigh Harris delivered the goods with a rifle shot past King goalkeeper Erin Foster.
59' Anna Grossheim netted the first of her two goals to start the scoring in the second half when she collected a pass down the near sideline, made a nifty move to escape her defender and laced a shot to the lower left side of the goal.
68' Anna Grossheim struck again midway through the second stanza when she collected a pass from Naomi Fountain in the center of the penalty area and connected on a shot to the top shelf.
72' Alexis Pittman benefited from a loose ball inside the 18-yard box to get in on the goal scoring late in the game. The senior calmly collected the 50-50 ball and hit a quick shot past Erin Foster to cap the scoring.
