Georgia College Rallies Back To Shock Volleyball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team put together late rallies to capture each of the first two sets of the evening, but Georgia College hit better than .160 at the net the rest of the way out and rallied to upset the Braves, 3-2 (25-23, 29-27, 17-25, 19-25, 10-15), on Friday evening in the Centennial Center.

The result snapped a two-match win streak for the Black & Gold (3-2, 3-2 PBC) who saw its first road matchup of the season turn sour. It was the third win in the last four matches for Georgia College (3-2, 3-2) who snapped a three-match series losing streak in the process as well.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-23 UNCP hit .216 in the opening set and captured nine of the evening's first 11 points to fuel an opening-set victory. The Bobcats strung together five-straight points to eventually knot up the set at 21 points apiece, but the Black & Gold got consecutive kills from Erin O'Donnell and Katelyn West to pull away for good.
SET 2 I 29-27 A see-saw second set was eventually decided by an attack error by the hosts. The set featured 22 tie scores and nine lead changes, but UNCP finally went in front for good thanks for a kill from Elly Hicks that gave it a 28-27 edge. An attack error on the ensuing point finished it off and gave the Braves a 2-0 lead on the night.
SET 3 I 17-25 The Bobcats hit an impressive .256 at the net and committed just four errors to halve their deficit with a set-three win. A kill by Lauren Talele gave the hosts a comfortable 12-7 advantage early on, but the Bobcats won nine of the next 12 points to build a 21-10 lead.
SET 4 I 19-25 Georgia College tacked up 19 kills in knotting up the match at two sets apiece with a win in set four. The Braves rallied back from an early 6-1 deficit and took the lead a handful of times midway through, but the Bobcats pulled away late with three consecutive points to build a 20-17 advantage, and then won the final five points of the set to swing the momentum.
SET 5 I 10-15 The hosts hit at a .200 clip in the fifth and deciding set, while holding the Braves to just a -.042 hitting percentage to seal the comeback win. UNCP battled back from an early 5-2 deficit to eventually pull to within one point, 8-7, midway through, but Georgia College rattled off a 4-1 run and held off the Black & Gold the rest of the way out.
