Pitching Key As No. 24 Baseball Sweeps Twinbill At Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke baseball team got the better end of a duel between the Peach Belt Conference's top pitchers to secure a 4-0 win in the series opener, and then used a 10-strikeout performance from righthander Darren Bowen to fuel a 7-2 win in the nightcap of a series-opening doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday.
 
The Braves (14-5, 11-3 PBC) have now captured the opening game of eight-straight weekend series, and clinched their fifth series victory of the season behind Bowen's gem in Saturday's second game. The setbacks snapped a four-game win streak for the Hurricanes (8-8, 7-7) who had captured two-straight league series heading into the weekend.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
TOP 2 Grant Elliott and Wellington Guzman climbed aboard via consecutive one-out singles, and the Braves took the lead for good two batters later on a RBI single from Trevor Clemons. Spencer Faulkner's two-run single in the next at-bat padded the lead out to a trio of runs.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 3 Reid Ragsdale legged out a bunt single, moved into position on an ensuing throwing error and then scooted to third base on a costly passed ball. Gregory Wozniak gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the afternoon on a RBI single, and a RBI single later in the frame padded the lead out to a pair of runs.
TOP 4 Trevor Clemons doubled to lead off the inning, and the Braves cut their deficit in half two batters later on River Ryan's one-out single. A two-run homer off the bat of Gage Hammonds in the next at-bat moved the Black & Gold in front for good.
BOT 7 Georgia Southwestern loaded the bases with one out to chase reliever Jake Mayhew from the hill, but River Ryan came in and slammed the door by getting Gregory Wozniak to line out before getting Anthony Angelino on an inning-ending strikeout.
