DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Brandon Boyles,
Joshua Chepkesir and
Keionna Ray each won their events on the opening day of action at the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Friday at the ERAU Track Complex. The men's team currently is in third place, while the women's team is in second place. Embry-Riddle leads both the men's and the women's competition.
Boyles got the day started with a first-place finish in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 45.33-meters. Chepkesir set a new meet record in the 10,000-meter Run with a time of 30:48.33 to capture the event title.
Caleb Baldwin ran the fastest time in the preliminary round of the 100-meter Dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10.55.
On the women's side, Ray's personal-best leap of 5.53-meters in the Long Jump was the only event title for the women's squad.
Quanterra Harrison logged the fastest time in the preliminary round of the 400-meter Hurdles and broke a three-year school record.
Raigan Evans (Hammer Throw) and
Aly Hudspeth (High Jump) each recorded personal-best parts in their events to earn a trip to the podium with a second place finish.
The men's team currently sits in third place with 39 points, while the women's team is in second place with 79.5 points. Embry-Riddle leads both the men's and the women's competition with 97 points and 104.5 points, respectively.
The final day of competition will begin tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with the women's 5000-meter Run. The first field event is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
