Red Hot Augusta Too Much For Volleyball

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Home-standing Augusta hit better than .300 at the net and committed just seven errors on the as the Jaguars rolled to a straight-sets victory (15-25, 23-25, 16-25) over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Friday evening inside Christenberry Fieldhouse.
 
The setback marked the second-straight loss for the Braves (5-5, 5-5 PBC) who fell to 0-4 away from Pembroke this season with the result as well. Augusta's (7-2, 6-2) victory avenged a 3-1 loss in Pembroke earlier this season, while also giving the Jaguars their sixth-straight win in 2021 as well.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 15-25 UNCP used kills from Kaila Crowder and Shannon Skryd to tack up the first two points of the set, but Augusta answered with a 7-1 run to take the lead for good. Augusta put together another 5-0 run later in the set to pad its lead out to 15-7, and then captured three of the last four points in the set to close it out.
SET 2 I 23-25 The Braves showed all of the makings of knotting the match back up after forging a 21-16 advantage after a service ace from Elise Martin, but the Jaguars scratched the scoreboard for eight of the next nine points to swing the momentum. Alyssa Frazier's kill on the first set point finished it out for the hosts.
SET 3 I 16-25 A handful of 3-point runs was enough for the Jaguars to close out the evening with a third-set victory. UNCP pulled to within four points, 18-14, on Erin O'Donnell's kill, but Augusta rallied for four of the next five points to distance itself. The Jaguars recorded three of the set's final four points, including three via attack error, to complete the afternoon.

The Braves will close out a three-match road trip on Tuesday when they head to Florence, S.C., to battle Francis Marion (3-5, 3-5 PBC). The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start inside the Smith University Center.
