HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Defense came at a premium in the opening half as both teams showcased a 55 percent success rate from the field, but it was a modest run that allowed the visitors to take a 44-39 advantage into the locker rooms. The Braves staked claim to an early 11-4 lead following a layup from Tyrell Kirk just more than three minutes in, but Jeremiah Phifer's 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark sparked a run of eight-straight points by the hosts that gave them a 30-27 advantage a couple of minutes later. UNCP answered that run with an 11-4 swing of their own though that eventually allowed them to tote a five-point lead into intermission.
2ND HALF
Mount Olive scored five-straight points to knot the game at 44 points apiece just less than a minute into the second half, but Deon Berrien's lay-in two possessions later ignited the Braves on a 20-4 run that gave them the lead for good. The Braves pushed their advantage out to 21 points, 73-52, on a trey from Bradlee Haskell at the 9:37 mark, and led by as many as 30 points, 95-65, following consecutive buckets from Tyre Boykin with less than a minute remaining.

+ UNCP matched a season-best with a dozen 3-pointers on Monday, and shot 42 percent or better (42.9 vs. Mount Olive) from the perimeter for the fourth time in 2021-22.
+ The Black & Gold has now out-rebounded its last 27 opponents, including 17 by a double-digit disparity in the rebounding column. With Monday's 38-13 advantage on the boards, UNCP has out-rebounded two opponents (Erskine) by 25 or more in 2021-22.
UP NEXT
