No. 24 Soccer Settles For 1-1 Tie With Francis Marion

PEMBROKE – The 24th-ranked UNC Pembroke soccer team put together a monstrous shot advantage and a dominant second-half effort, but 90 minutes was not enough to settle the Battle of I-95 on Tuesday evening as the Braves were forced to settle with a 1-1 tie with visiting Francis Marion at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The setback snapped a four-match home win streak for the Black & Gold (11-2-1, 7-1-1 CC) who finished their evening on the better end of a 35-4 shot disparity, including a 15-2 advantage in the shots on goal column. The Patriots (1-8-3, 0-6-2) saw their seven-match skid come to an end, but still have not tasted victory since a 1-0 result at Newberry on August 31.

SCORING SUMMARY
9' An errant clearance by the UNCP backline bounced right to the feet of Gianna Pavone who settled the bouncing ball and hit a chip shot to the far post that was just out of the reach of netminder Chiara Coppin.
9' Anna Grossheim's corner kick on the far side pinballed its way through a cluster of red and gold inside the penalty area, but then settled in front of Ashleigh Harris who netted the Equalizer on a laser shot that found its way inside the near post.

TOP BRAVES
+ Redshirt junior Ashleigh Harris netted a goal for the third time in the last four games. The California native also finished her night with six shots, four of which went on target.
+ Junior Anna Grossheim and true freshman Eugenie Amidou logged a match-best eight shots against the Patriots. Amidou walked away from the outing with a season-best six shots on goal, while Grossheim saw a trio of her shots go on target.
NOTABLES
+ Tuesday's result halted a four-match home win streak for the Braves who are now 11-2-1 in their last 14 contests at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
+ UNCP pushed its series unbeaten streak out to three matches with the draw, and have now grabbed at least one point (win or tie) in six of the last seven meetings with Francis Marion. Tuesday marked the first tie in the 13-match-old series between the I-95 rivals.

UP NEXT
UNCP will hit the road again this weekend for a rare Friday league matchup with Conference Carolinas-leading North Greenville (10-2-1, 9-0-0 CC) at NGU's Pepsi Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
