Mount Olive Stuns Volleyball In Five Sets

MOUNT OLIVE – Mount Olive registered 12 service aces and hit better than .200 at the net in three sets to outlast the UNC Pembroke volleyball team 3-2 (17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25, 12-15) in a five set thriller on Saturday evening inside Kornegay Arena.
 
The setback snapped an 11-match win streak that dated back to early September. The outcome also marked the first loss to the Trojans in the last five outings.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 17-25 Mount Olive hit .244 in the opening set and took a 17-13 lead off of a kill from Amara Eziakonwa.  UNCP was able to get within two points, but the Trojans logged five service aces and two blocks to grab the opening set. 
SET 2 I 21-25 The hosts scored the first five points of the set and took a 7-2 lead with a kill from Alyssa Jackson.  UNC Pembroke took their first lead of the set, 15-14, with an ill-timed UMO attack error, but the Trojans finished the set on a 6-2 run to take a two-set lead.  
SET 3 I 25-20 The Braves hit a game-high .308 from the net and used a Vanja Przulj service ace to push their lead out to 14-9. Mount Olive scored five points in a row to trim their deficit to 19-17, but UNCP held onto the set scoring the final three points. 
SET 4 I 27-25 The Black & Gold continued to have the hot hand in the fourth set hitting .306 from the net and took a 20-16 lead with a Shannon Skryd kill. Mount Olive knotted the score at 24 apiece with a big block, but the Braves were able to score the final two points of the set to send the match to a deciding fifth set. 
SET 5 I 12-15 The Trojans scored five consecutive points capped off with a kill from Neza Pec to push their lead out to 13-6. UNCP fended off four match points, but a kill from Ashlyn Stone stopped the comeback for the Braves.
