JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -  Newcomer Vilma Evald carded a six-over-par 78 in the final round to help pace the UNC Pembroke golf team to a second place finish at the Jekyll Island Invitational on Tuesday at the Jekyll Island Pine Lanes Course.

Evald (+4) finished the tournament tied for seventh-place and finished seven strokes behind Nilubol Panno of Tusculum, who was crowned as the individual champion. Samantha DeBusk (+7) finished the tournament in a tie for 13th place, while Toni Blackwell (+10) closed out the tournament in a four-way tie for 22nd place. Georgia Page (+11) and Amanda Hamrin (+11) rounded out the scoring for the Black & Gold among a seven-way tie for 26th place. 

Elizabeth Ritchie, who competed as an individual, shot an impressive 155 in her first tournament of the season to finish tied for 13th place. Hanna Sofie Borgen (+25), who was also competing as an individual, finished tied for 79th place. 

The finish for the Black & Gold marked the second runner-up finish of the season. 

The Braves will play in their final fall tournament on October 31 when they compete at the Converse Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament will be played at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.
