Soccer Scores Early, Often To Down Barton On Senior Night

PEMBROKE – Freshman Eugenie Amidou's header just 50 seconds into the evening proved to be more than enough offense for the UNC Pembroke soccer team as the Braves showed their might on both sides of the ball on the way to a 5-0 victory over visiting Barton on Senior Night at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.

The result capped a near-perfect 5-0-1 home slate for the Braves (13-2-1, 9-1-1 CC) who will close out the regular season portion of their 2022 schedule on Saturday at Southern Wesleyan. It was just the second loss in the last six outings for the Bulldogs (5-6-2, 5-4-2) who have now dropped nine-straight matchups in the series with the Black & Gold.

SCORING SUMMARY
1' Morgan Hill's corner kick service to the penalty kick stripe found the head of Eugenie Amidou who redirected the ball over the head of Barton goalkeeper Rachel Cox.
34' Zion Sellers picked off an errant pass by the Barton midfield and hit a quick pass to Anna Grossheim who put everything she had behind a shot from 28 yards away that eventually trickled across the touch line.
43' Nona Borden skipped a pass into the far side of the penalty area, and Ashleigh Harris collected the loose ball, dribbled around a defender and connected on a short-range shot inside the far post.
48' Eugenie Amidou launched a deep pass to a streaking Zion Sellers down the near sideline who dribbled into the penalty area before knocking a pass across the goal mouth to a waiting Naomi Fountain on the far post.
60' Anna Grossheim quickly picked the pocket of a Barton defender, settled her feet and chipped a shot over a retreating Rachel Cox who was attempting to scurry back to her goalkeeper box.
