Mount Olive Slips By Soccer In Defensive Battle

MOUNT OLIVE – Karen Barry delivered the match's only goal in the 86th minute as home-standing Mount Olive rallied behind a staunch defensive effort to hand the UNC Pembroke soccer team its first loss in more than a month on Wednesday evening at Amon Field.

The setback snapped a nine-match win streak for the Braves (10-2-0, 6-1-0 CC) who also had their six match road winning skein halted in the process as well. It was the fifth home victory of the season for the Trojans (8-4-0, 6-1-0) who had a six-match win streak stopped in a 2-0 road loss at league-leading North Greenville on Friday.

SCORING SUMMARY
85' A foul deep in UNCP's defensive third set up a free kick for Mount Olive, and Karen Barry delivered with a shot from 22 yards out that found its way over the outstretched fingers of Chiara Coppin and under the crossbar.

NOTABLES

+ The Trojans improved to 4-10-1 all-time in their series with UNCP, but have now captured three of the last four matchups with the Braves. Ten contests in the 15-match series have been decided via shutout.

UP NEXT
The Braves will open a season-longest two-match home stand on Saturday when they suit up to take on Belmont Abbey (5-4-2, 4-1-1 CC) in a 2 p.m. contest at Lumbee River EMC Stadium. Admission to all 2022 UNCP soccer home matches is free.
