Soccer Rights Ship, Blanks Belmont Abbey

PEMBROKE – Ashleigh Harris provided the match's only goal with a header right before halftime, and the UNC Pembroke soccer team rallied behind a career day from goalkeeper Chiara Coppin to post a 1-0 victory over visiting Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee River EMC Stadium.
 
It was the 11th victory in the last 12 home outings for UNCP (11-2-0, 7-1-0 CC) who has now captured three-straight meetings in the 7-match-old series with the Crusaders. The result snapped a four-match road win streak for Belmont Abbey (5-5-2, 4-2-1) who has now dropped two of its last three outings.

 
SCORING SUMMARY
44' A corner kick from Anna Grossheim found the strong end of a brisk crosswind, but Ashleigh Harris was on the near side of the penalty area and redirected the service inside the near post.
 
TOP BRAVES
+ Nine different players registered at least one shot for the Black & Gold on Saturday, with eight of those individuals registering at least one shot on goal. Redshirt junior Zion Sellers led the way with a team-best five strikes.
+ Redshirt junior Ashleigh Harris netted her third game-winning goal of the campaign, and has now logged at least one point (goal or assist) in six contests this season. Junior Anna Grossheim (assist) has scored at least one point in eight matches in 2022.
+ Junior Chiara Coppin turned in a career-best nine saves to highlight Saturday for the UNCP defense. Coppin also logged her fifth individual shutout of the season (17th career) in the process as well.
NOTABLES
+ UNCP has now captured wins in 11 of its last 12 home outings dating back to September 11 (Erskine) of last season. The Braves have surrendered just seven goals over that same span with seven shutouts.
+ The Braves are now 6-1-0 all-time in the series with Belmont Abbey, including a current three-match win streak in the series. Five of UNCP's six victories in the series have come via shutout.
   
UP NEXT
The Black & Gold will close out a season-longest two-match home stand on Tuesday evening when it takes on Francis Marion (1-7-2, 0-5-1 CC) in the Battle of I-95. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Lumbee River EMC Stadium, and admission to all 2022 UNCP soccer home matches is free.
