Wrestling Sends Eight To Podium At 41st Annual Pembroke Classic

PEMBROKE – Logan Seliga (125 pounds), Jake Piccirilli (149) and Shylik Scriven (184) all finished off unblemished days on the mat with convincing victories in their championship bouts to highlight action for the UNC Pembroke wrestling team on Sunday in the 41st Annual Pembroke Classic at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
Freshmen Logan Robinson and Ryan Walker came away with runner-up finishes in the 133-pound and heavyweight tournament, while Caleb Grau  and Garrett Steele posted third-place showings in the 174- and 197-pound tournament, respectively. Chance Cottingham put together a fourth-place performance at 133 pounds, and Will Lowery rounded out the place-winners for UNCP on the day with a 5th place finish in the 157-pound tournament.
 
Twenty wrestlers registered at least one victory for the Black & Gold in their respective tournaments, including 17 that picked up two or more wins in the season-opening event for the squad.
 
The Braves will be back in action again on Thuraday when they make the short trip to Hartsville, S.C., to take on Coker in a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas dual meet inside the DeLoach Center. Wrestling action is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
