Seliga Captures Title At Midwest Classic, Wrestling 21st

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Redshirt sophomore Logan Seliga used a third-period takedown to upset fourth-ranked Brandon Mendoza in the semifinals, and then climbed to the top of the podium by virtue of injury default less than a minute into the championship match, to highlight action for the UNC Pembroke wrestling team on Sunday afternoon at the 43rd Annual Midwest Classic.
 
Sunday's wins completed an unblemished 5-0 march through the tournament for the Pennsylvania native. Seliga becomes just the sixth UNCP wrestler to capture an individual title at the prestigious tournament. The Braves have made 17 appearances in Indianapolis across the 43-year history of the event.
 
The Braves racked up 39-1/2 points across the two-day event before settling into the No. 21 position on the team leaderboard. Fourth-ranked Lander (3rd) was the only region squad to finish ahead of the Black & Gold.
 
UNCP will be back in action again, December 29-30, when it heads to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., to take part in the John Carroll-hosted Citrus Invitational. The Black & Gold will compete at home again on January 12 when it takes on Emmanuel in a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas dual meet.
