Wrestling Upends Tiffin, Falls At Baldwin Wallace

| By:
BEREA, Ohio – The UNC Pembroke wrestling team captured six-straight individual matches to offset an early deficit and upend Tiffin, 34-15, but host Baldwin Wallace tacked up wins in seven matchups, including five wins with bonus points, to hand the Braves a 33-14 setback on Friday evening at the Baldwin Wallace Tri-Meet in northeast Ohio.

Jake Piccirilli (149 pounds), Caleb Grau (165) and Shylik Scriven (184) all posted unblemished nights on the mat to highlight action for the Braves (4-1). The event marked the dual meet openers for both Tiffin (0-2) and the host Yellowjackets (2-0).

Tiffin used a first-period pin in the 141-pound matchup to stake claim to an early 11-1 advantage, but the Black & Gold won each of the next six matchups to exercise its might. The six-win run included pins by Piccirilli, Will Lowery (157), Logan Hoffman (174), Scriven and Garrett Steele.

Baldwin Wallace, which rolled into the weekend sporting a No. 22 national ranking in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III poll, recorded bonus-point wins in each of the first three matches of their dual with the Braves to forge a quick 15-0, and then hit cruise control. The Yellowjackets won four of the final six matchups of the dual, interrupted only by Grau's major decision at 165 pounds and Scriven's first-period pin in the 184-pound bout.

UNCP will be back in action again on December 12 when it treks to Elkins, W.Va., to battle both Bluefield State and Davis & Elkins inside D&E's McDonnell Center.
