Baseball Rattles Southern Wesleyan In Conference Opener

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke baseball team pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good, and then blew the game wide open with 13 runs in the bottom of the eighth, on the way to a 19-2 victory over visiting Southern Wesleyan in Friday's Conference Carolinas series opener at Sammy Cox Field.
 
The victory snapped a two-game slide for the Braves (4-3, 1-0 CC) who improved to 17-5 in conference openers under head coach Paul O'Neil. The Warriors have now dropped six of their last seven contests, and fell to 0-3 in road games with Friday's result.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3 Bobby Dixon's one-out solo homer gave the Braves a 3-2 advantage, but the Braves kept things going with a follow-up double from Andrew Mills and a pot-shot single to left field off of the bat of Spencer Faulkner. Christian Jayne's RBI single made it a 4-2 affair.
BOT 8 The Braves sent 17 batters to the plate in their half of the eighth on the way to registering 10 hits and 13 runs. UNCP trotted 14 batters up the plate before Southern Wesleyan was able to tack an out up on the scoreboard.
