Lenoir-Rhyne Too Much For Softball

HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne produced runs in the second and third innings of game one, and scored in five innings of game two on the way to a series sweep over the UNC Pembroke softball team on Saturday afternoon at Bears Field. Lenoir-Rhyne captured the opening game 4-0, and then secured the sweep with an 8-2 victory in the back half of the doubleheader. 
 
The setback for the Braves snapped a three-game winning streak and marked the first road contests of the season. The victory for the Bears was the sixth straight win and helped them remain perfect on the home field.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 3 Katelyn Rackard reached on an ill-timed error from left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Cassidy Wall doubled down the left field line to score Rackard. Julia Mardigian singled up the middle to plate Wall and Lauren Rakes capped off the three run inning with an RBI single to put the Bears on top 4-0.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
TOP 1 Mary Sells beat out an infield single, and scored on a Tatum Brummitt double deep to left center field. 
BOT 5 Lora Beth Wood singled to second base followed by a Kendall Osbone RBI single to left field to tack on a run for Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears put runners on second and third after a single from Savanah Moorefield, but Katelyn Rackard smacked a triple to left center field to put LR ahead 7-2.

The Braves will get nearly a week off before returning to action on Saturday when they welcome Adelphi (0-0) to Pembroke. First pitch of the twinbill is set for 1 p.m. at the UNCP Softball Field. Admission to all home 2022 UNCP softball games is free.
