Softball Splits Autism Awareness Series With Mount Olive

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke softball team used timely hitting to pull off a 2-1 victory in the opening game, but allowed 19 hits in game two of the Autism Awareness Series falling 14-5 in five innings to Mount Olive on Tuesday afternoon at the UNCP Softball Field.
 
The Braves (19-13, 8-8 CC) have captured two out of the last three games with Mount Olive and are 17-15 when playing against UMO in Pembroke. The Trojans (35-11, 14-5 CC) snapped a two-game win streak with the outcome of game one, but are now 19-6 when playing on the road.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 2 Samantha Allred lit up the scoreboard with a homer over the center field fence to give the Braves the early lead.
TOP 5 Courtlynn Cooney singled to right field and then stole second. Madison Morgan drove Cooney in with an RBI double to center field to knot the score at 1-1.
BOT 6 UNCP loaded the bases after walks from Tatum Brummitt and Samantha Allred, and a single up the middle from Emily Biddle. A long sacrifice fly from MaKenna Sibbett helped plate Brummitt to put the hosts up for good.
KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1 The Braves put runners on the corners after a leadoff single from Mary Sells and to left field from Jordan Adcox. An ill-timed wild pitch plated Sells and moved Adcox to third, before a single up the middle from Samantha Allred to give UNCP a 2-1 lead.
TOP 5 The first five batters for the Trojans in the inning reached by a base hit, two of which were doubles. With 10 batters stepping to the plate, Mount Olive scored five runs on six hits to pad their lead

UP NEXT
The Braves will make the short trip on I-95 to Florence, S.C.,  on Thursday to take on Francis Marion (24-14, 10-6 CC). First pitch of the twinbill is slated for 4 p.m. at the FMU Softball Complex.
