FLORENCE, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke softball team tacked up runs in five of the six innings to capture a 10-2 victory in the opening contest against Francis Marion, and battled from behind but dropped a tough 6-5 setback in the back half of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the FMU Softball Stadium.
The victory for the Braves (20-14, 9-9 CC) in game one marked the third consecutive win against Francis Marion when playing in Florence. The Patriots (25-16, 11-7 CC) improve to 21-8 when playing on their home field.

Tatum Brummitt got the inning started after reaching from a fielding error from the first baseman. Emily Biddle sent one down the left field line that cleared the fence for a two-run blast to give UNCP the early lead. |

Jordan Adcox drew a eight pitch walk and then stole second. Adcox ended up at third after a throwing error from the short stop. The Braves had runners on the corners after Emily Biddle also drew a walk, just before Samantha Allred singled to right center field to score Adcox. A fielding error by the shortstop on a ball put in play from MaKenna Sibbett allowed Biddle to score for an early 2-0 lead. |

The Patriots put their first two batters on via singles to the outfield grass. Savana Rosson singled down the right field line to score the first FMU run. Megan Matsil doubled to the outfield gap to plate two more Francis Marion runners to take a 3-2 lead. |

UNC Pembroke loaded the bases after singles from Marijo Wilkes and Mary Sells, and a walk form Tatum Brummitt. Jordan Adcox drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, followed by a two-run double from Emily Biddle to knot the score at 5-5. |

NaJah Gerrald reached on a fielding error by the second baseman and advanced to second on a passed ball. Gerrald advanced to third after a pop up deep down the right field line, and scored when Katie Smith reached on a fielding error. |
