Home Sweet Defense: Football Knocks Off Frostburg State

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke football team limited visiting Frostburg State to just 240 yards of total offense, including just 84 yards on the ground, and staved off a 47-yard field goal attempt as time expired to upend the Bobcats, 10-9, on Thursday evening at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The result stopped a two-match skid for the Braves (2-3, 2-2 MEC) who used the win to snap a two-game skid in the 4-game-old series with Frostburg State as well. It was the second-straight week that the Bobcats (3-2, 2-2) have fallen by a lone point.

Dante Bowlding registered a team-high eight tackles and one pass break-up to pace Code Black who held the Bobcats to six plays or less on seven of nine drives in the outing, including a trio of 3-and-out possessions. Virgil Lemons grabbed a key interception for the hosts as well.

Zechariah Adams-Duckson ran for 88 yards on a career-best 19 carries to pace the Black & Gold offense. Quarterback Josh Jones completed 73.9 percent (17-of-23) for 110 yards to aid the effort as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
Zechariah Adams-Duckson shouldered most of the load on the opening drive of the game for the Braves, carrying the ball seven times for 36 yards to fuel the 16-play, 67-yard possession that milked more than eight minutes off of the scoreboard. The drive stalled inside the 5-yard line, but UNCP took the lead anyway on a 21-yard field goal from Alex Alvarado. UNCP 3, FSU 0

Zechariah Adams-Duckson went to work again on UNCP's first full drive of the second quarter, rushing for 27 yards on seven attempts. Josh Jones impressed on the possession as well, completing all three of his pass attempts for 22 yards, before finishing off the scoring drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. UNCP 10, FSU 0
2ND QUARTER
A 50-yard pass-and-catch near the far sideline on the ensuing play from scrimmage sparked Frostburg State's only scoring drive of the contest. Isiah Lester eventually gave the Bobcats their only offensive points of the night with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Marcucci. UNCP 10, FSU 7
3RD QUARTER
UNCP got rewarded for a big goal line stand with unfavorable field position on its own 1-yard line, and Frostburg State took advantage. The Braves got out of the shadows of their own goal post with a 1-yard run on first down, but the Bobcats downed JaQuan Kelly in the end zone on second down to post a safety on the board. UNCP 10, FSU 9
4TH QUARTER
No scoring.
