PEMBROKE – Athletics department officials from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke announced on Monday morning that swimmer Mariel Mencia Martinez and wrestler Logan Seliga have been named the Scotland Health Care System Braves of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22, 2023.
 
Mencia Martinez, a junior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, won three individual events and swam a leg on an event champion relay squad, as the Braves bested both 40^th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne and Roanoke at a tri-meet on Saturday inside the UNCP Aquatics Center. She established an NCAA B Standard qualifying time, as well as shattered her own school record, with a mark of 23.62 seconds in the 50-yard Freestyle, while also finishing at the top of the field in the 100-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Butterfly events.
 
Seliga, a redshirt sophomore from Belle Vernon, Pa., registered a pair of pins over a combined 1 minute and 56 seconds as the Black & Gold recorded dual meet wins over Lincoln Memorial and King in Harrogate, Tenn., on Thursday. Seliga opened action at the Lincoln Memorial-hosted tri-meet by pinning LMU's Porter Finstad at the 1:35 mark of the first period, and then closed out his day with a pin of King's Tyson Upchurch in just 21 seconds.
