Offense Explodes In Football Season Finale

PEMBROKE - The UNC Pembroke football team used a 51-point second half and 637 yards of total offense on the way to a dominating 68-21 victory over Concord on Saturday evening for senior day at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

The victory for the Braves (7-3, 6-3 MEC) marked the fourth consecutive win for the squad and finish the season with a 5-1 record when playing in Pembroke. The Mountain Lions (1-10, 1-9 MEC) finish the season 0-5 on the road and fall to 2-4 all-time when playing the Braves at Grace P. Johnson Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER
UNC Pembroke forced Concord to a three-and-out and the Braves got the ball back on their own 48-yard line. Malik Tobias caught a 35-yard pass from Colin Johnson followed by a completion to Sincere Baines for a gain of 10 yards. UNCP got down to the Concord 10-yard line, but had to settle for a 26-yard field goal from Ty Woods. UNCP 3, CU 0
 
Colin Johnson connected with Trey Dixon for an 18-yard completion, and then found an open Sincere Baines down field for a gain of 21-yards. Baines broke free from the defense and caught a 17-yard pass from Johnson on the next play, and then Johnson rushed to the right to keep the offense moving down the field. Johnson completed a 12-yard pass up the middle to Dixon for a touchdown. UNCP 10, CU 0
2ND QUARTER
The Braves ended the first quarter driving on offense and used a deep 22-yard pass to Malik Tobias, a 29-yard rush from Colin Johnson, and a 17-yard pass completion to Jayden Smith to end the quarter. Sincere Baines rushed up the middle for a six-yard touchdown. UNCP 17, CU 0
 
Jack Mangel completed a 27-yard pass to D'Andre Hicks for get Concord to the UNCP 48-yard line. Mangel connected with Kevon Young-Warren for a gain of 10-yards and the Mountain Lions scored on a two-yard rush from Young-Warren. UNCP 17, CU 7
3RD QUARTER
The Braves started the quarter with the ball on their own 40-yard line after JaQuan Kelly returned the opening kickoff for 21-yards. Colin Johnson's 14-yard pass was completed to Trey Dixon, and then Sincere Baines split the Concord defense for a 43-yard touchdown run. UNCP 24, CU 7
 
On just the second play of the drive for Concord, Jamae Blank forced and recovered a fumble to get UNCP the ball back on the Mountain Lions 18-yard line. A Concord penalty gave the Braves a 1st down on the Concord 9-yard line, and Colin Johnson rushed up the middle for a gain of eight yards. Sincere Baines took the ball in the end zone on the next play for a touchdown. UNCP 31, CU 7
 
Concord recovered fumble at the UNCP 44-yard line and Brodee Rice took it the distance for a Mountain Lions touchdown. UNCP 31, CU 14
 
Sincere Baines rushed to the right for a gain of seven yards followed by a 23-yard completion from Colin Johnson to Jeremiah Smith. Johnson worked his way through the defense for a 10-yard touchdown run. UNCP 38, CU 14
 
Colin Johnson found a wide open Trey Dixon down field for a gain of 29-yards and then Johnson rushed up the middle for an additional 13-yards. Sincere Baines raced down the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown run. UNCP 45, CU 14
4TH QUARTER
Concord's Elijah Copes intercepted a UNCP pass and ran the ball back 52-yards to start the Mountain Lions drive at the UNCP 33-yard line. The Braves were called for three penalties in a row to move the Concord offense to the Pembroke 11-yard line. T.J. Finney rushed up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown run. UNCP 45, CU 21
 
Sincere Baines started the drive with a 21-yard run down the left sideline followed by a 20-yard run from Colin Johnson. Baines rushed up the middle for an 18-yard gain, but Johnson raced down the right sideline for a 31-yard touchdown run. UNCP 52, CU 21
 
Keshawn Pickett intercepted Jack Mangel's pass and returned it for a 15-yard touchdown. UNCP 59, CU 21
 
Sincere rushed to the left for a gain of 23-yards to get to the Concord 17-yard line. An unnecessary roughness called moved the ball to the CU eight-yard line where Baines powered through the defense for a touchdown. UNCP 66, CU 21
 
The UNCP defense forced Concord to punt, but a snap over the kicker's head resulted in a UNCP safety. UNCP 68, CU 21
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Sincere Baines carried the ball 21 times for 178 yards and five touchdowns. Baines also caught four passes for 76 yards. The true freshman's five rushing touchdowns broke school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game. 
Colin Johnson went 18-for-29 on pass attempts for 309 yards and one touchdown. Johnson also ran the ball 15 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns. 
+ Senior Raydarius Freeman finished the night with seven tackles. He tallied 4.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards. He also had a half of sack for a loss of four yards. 
+ Jamae Blank had six tackles, four of which were for a loss of 16 total yards. The redshirt junior forced one fumble and recovered a fumble as well. Blank finished with two sacks for a loss of nine yards, which set the school record for most sacks in a single season. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke's 68 points marked a school record for most points in a single game. 
+ The Braves also finished the season averaging 40.4 points per game which also was a school record. 
+ The 637 yards of offense during Saturday's victory marks the second most in program history. 
+ The Black & Gold outscored their opponents 404-189 during the season
