Haskell’s Basket Lifts Men’s Basketball Over Fayetteville State

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot 50.9 percent from the field and used a three from Bradlee Haskell with 27 seconds left to defeat Fayetteville State 81-77 on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The victory for the Braves (3-3) marked the 10th straight victory over Fayetteville State and was the 14th home opener victory for the squad. The Broncos (2-4) have now dropped their least three contests and fall to 19-30 all-time against UNCP.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Fayetteville State took what would be its largest lead of the night, 6-2, with a 3-pointer from the top of the key from Kaleb Coleman just three minutes into action. UNC Pembroke put together an 11-0 scoring run to take a 30-18 lead via a jumper from JaJuan Carr with 7:39 remaining in the half. The Broncos cut their deficit back to 37-36 with a three from Myles Pierre with 1:23 on the clock, but the Braves closed out the half on a 9-0 run to hold a 46-36 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
2ND HALF
UNCP took its largest lead of the night, 61-47 with a pair of Bradlee Haskell free throws with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation. Tyler Foster knotted the score at 67 apiece with four points but Javonte Waverly extended the UNCP lead out to 70-67 with a big 3-pointer from the corner. FSU used a five-point scoring swing to take a slight 75-74 advantage with 1:22 remaining, but Bradlee Haskell's 3-pointer with 27 seconds left gave the hosts the lead for good. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell scored a team-high 18 points and was 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Haskell also dished out seven assists, and three steals and one block.
+  Javonte Waverly provided a spark off of the bench with 15 points after a 5-for-8 clip from the field. 
+ JaJuan Carr finished the night with 11 points on a 5-for-8 shooting performance. Jamarvious Jones also added 10 points off of the bench and was 2-for-3 from the perimeter. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 50.9 percent from the field during Tuesday's victory. The shooting performance marked the best outing for the squad since the season opener when UNCP shot 52.3 percent from the field. 
+ UNCP forced 13 FSU turnovers and converted those into 20 points. 
+ The Black & Gold held a 36-26 advantage with points in the paint. UNC Pembroke also scored 24 points in transition while Fayetteville State was limited to 11 fast break points.
