HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Tusculum took what would be its largest lead of the afternoon, 11-6, following a layup from Josiah Morris with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. UNC Pembroke put together a 9-2 run capped off with a trey from Bradlee Haskell to take a slight 15-13 advantage with seven minutes left on the clock in the opening half. The Braves shot 36.7 percent from the field and used a 10-0 scoring run to lead 27-19 with just over a minute left in the half, as Bradlee Haskell drained a bucket at the buzzer to send the teams to the locker rooms with UNCP leading 29-22.
2ND HALF
Nygell Verdier knocked down a triple to push the UNCP lead out to 32-24, but Tusculum's Gemari Marshall answered with a three of his own just moments later. An old-fashioned three-point play from JaJuan Carr padded the UNC Pembroke lead, 41-34, with 12:16 left to play in regulation. The Pioneers chipped away at their deficit and trailed just 45-42 with a dunk from Jacob Hobbs at the 9:31 mark, but a running layup from Nygell Verdier cushioned the UNCP lead. Tusculum put together a 9-0 run to take a 55-53 lead following a trey from Josiah Morris, but Josh Berenbaum's layup knotted the score at 55 apiece with under five minutes on the clock. UNCP responded with a 7-0 run and took their largest lead of the contest, 68-57, with a dunk from Nygell Verdier with nine seconds on the clock.
