Men’s Basketball Extends Streak To 11, Shuts Down Barton

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot a season-high 57.9 percent from the field and scored 44 points in the paint on the way to an 82-67 victory against Barton on Wednesday at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The Braves (13-3, 7-0) have now won their last 11 games and are 8-0 when playing in Pembroke this season. The setback for the Bulldogs (6-11, 3-4 CC) marked the third consecutive loss this season and the fifth straight loss to the Black & Gold when playing at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNC Pembroke took an early 17-8 advantage in the opening half with a jumper from Javonte Waverly at the 13:32 mark. Barton went on a 14-4 run to take what would be its largest lead of the night, 22-21, following a jumper from Donaven Hairston with just over nine minutes remaining in the half. UNCP answered with a 12-3 run and took a 33-25 advantage with a Cortez Marion-Holmes layup with 4:10 on the clock. The Bulldogs chipped away at their deficit, 35-32, with a layup from Reese McDonald, but the Braves scored the final six points of the half and held a 41-32 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
2ND HALF
UNC Pembroke shot 52.9 percent from the field and took a 54-36 lead with a layup from Josh Berenbaum four minutes into the half. An old-fashioned three-point play from Dallas Gardner gave the Braves their largest lead of the night, 64-41, with 12:18 left to play in regulation. Barton used a 7-0 scoring surge to cut their deficit back to 64-48 at the 10-minute mark, but a jumper from Nygell Verdier padded the UNCP lead 70-52 with just under six minutes on the clock.  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Josh Berenbaum finished with a game-high 17 points on a 6-for-8 shooting performance. Berenbaum recorded a double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds.
+ Bradlee Haskell added 13 points and was 4-for-8 from the field. The Southern Pines native pulled down five rebound and had four assists.
+ Dallas Gardner finished with 11 points after a 4-for-5 clip from the field while also pulling down three rebounds. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot a season-high 57.9 percent from the field and held Barton to a season-low 32.4-percent shooting from the field. 
+ The Black & Gold posted a 45-29 advantage in rebounds as well. It was the fewest rebounds in a game this season for the Bulldogs. 
+ The Braves held a 44-26 advantage with points in the paint.
+ UNCP tallied eight blocks, with JaJuan Carr and Amare Miller each registering two.
