Men’s Basketball Holds On, Upsets No. 9 Lincoln Memorial

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot 40-percent from the floor and made good on all 29 attempts from the free throw line to key an 83-75 upset victory against No. 9 Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
 
The victory for the Braves (2-4) marked the first win against Lincoln Memorial and was the first home victory of the season. The setback for the Railsplitters marked the first loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNC Pembroke took an early 11-6 lead following an old-fashioned three-point play from Quay Watson, but Lincoln Memorial went on a 9-0 run to lead 15-11 with 12:17 remaining in the opening half. The Braves shot 41.1 percent from the floor and used six straight points to push the hosts lead out to 24-18 with 6-1/2 minutes on the clock. The Railsplitters would take a slight 25-24 lead following a pair of free throws, but the Braves closed out the half on a 13-8 run to send the teams to the locker rooms with UNC Pembroke leading 37-33.
2ND HALF
Joe'l Pettiford padded the UNCP lead, 43-40, with a running layup, but LMU put together a 12-0 run to take what would be their largest lead of the night, 52-43 six minutes in the frame. Bradlee Haskell sparked the offense for the Braves on a 13-0 run to lead 56-52 capped off with a bucket from JaJuan Carr with 9-1/2 minutes remaining in regulation. The Railsplitters made good on five straight free throws to take a slight 57-56 lead, but a pair of free throws from Bradlee Haskell moments later gave UNCP the lead for good 58-57, with seven minutes on the clock. LMU was able to cut their deficit back to one possession, 67-64, with a jumper from Osmar Garcia-Araujo with three minutes remaining, but the hosts closed out the game on a 16-8 run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell finished with a game-high 26 points highlighted by a 14-for-14 clip from the free throw line. The senior pulled down six rebounds and added a block and an assist. 
+ Dallas Gardner nearly posted a double-double with 13 points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes of work. 
+ JaJuan Carr added 11 points and four rebounds, while Elijah Cobb had 10 points and a trio of blocks. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke was a perfect 29-of-29 from the free throw line. It is the first time in the history of the program that the team has not missed a free throw in a game. 
+ Wednesday's victory marked the first win against Lincoln Memorial in the four-game series. 
+ LMU scored 53 points from its bench, while UNCP had just 15 bench points.  
+ The Black & Gold held the lead for 57.8 percent of Wednesday's game. 
+ The 83 points scored by UNCP marked the most points that LMU has given up this season.
