Volleyball Defeats King In Four Sets

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The UNC Pembroke volleyball team rallied off nine service aces and picked up eight blocks on the way to a 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19) victory over King on Friday evening inside the Student Center Complex. 

The Braves (8-5, 5-0 CC) improve to 5-1 all-time when playing King and are 2-1 when playing in Bristol, Tenn. The setback for the Tornado (5-8, 3-3 CC) snapped a two-game win streak and fall to 3-2 when playing on their home court this season.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 15-25 Both teams exchanged points to start the match, but the Tornado quickly gained momentum. Cameron Martin's kill initiated the scoring for King, while a series of attack errors from the Braves opened the gap. Despite efforts from UNCP's Addie Decker and Abby Peduzzi, who each contributed kills, King maintained their lead with effective plays from Ella Kiser and Gracia Love. King extended their advantage, reaching a 19-10 lead with consistent scoring. UNCP managed to reduce the deficit to 23-15, but King secured the set with a kill by Madison Blair, concluding the set at 25-15.
SET 2 I 25-23 The Braves capitalized on errors from King to build an early lead, with McKenna Hayes and Kaitlyn Koel contributing key kills. The Tornado responded with Ella Kiser and Isabel Krick leading the charge, narrowing the gap to 11-8. Addie Decker's consistent performance helped the Braves maintain their advantage as she registered multiple kills. Despite a late surge by King, highlighted by a service ace from Chloe Clayton, UNCP secured the set 25-23 with a decisive kill by Tyler Patterson.
SET 3 I 25-23 Early in the set, King capitalized on a series of kills by Garcia Love and Isabel Krick to build a slight advantage. However, UNCP responded with service aces from Brette Doile and Abby Peduzzi, narrowing the gap. A crucial block by Kaitlyn Koel and McKenna Hayes helped the Braves even the score at 21 apiece. Abby Peduzzi's decisive kill secured the set for UNCP with a final score of 25-23.
SET 4 I 25-19 The set began with a series of attack errors from the Tornado, allowing UNCP to establish a 5-1 lead. Addie Decker and Alexandria Mills contributed significantly with a block and kill, respectively, as UNCP extended its advantage. Despite a late surge from King, including service aces from Ella Kiser, the UNCP consistent attack, punctuated by Savannah Whaley's and Kaitlyn Koel's final kills, closed out the set and match.
