Volleyball Falls At Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK – Lees-McRae hit .238 from the net and added eight blocks on the way to a 3-2 (25-23, 26-28, 22-25, 26-24, 15-8) victory over the UNC Pembroke volleyball team on Saturday afternoon inside Williams Gymnasium. 

The setback for the Braves (8-6, 5-1 CC) marked the first conference loss this season and fall to 3-4 all-time when playing in Banner Elk. The victory for the Bobcats (4-11, 4-4 CC) snapped a three-game skid.

SET 1 I 23-25 Lees-McRae took an early lead at 5-2, capitalizing on two attack errors by UNC Pembroke. The Braves fought back with Kaitlyn Koel contributing multiple kills, leveling the score at several points, including 19-19. Addi Stables was a key player for Lees-McRae, recording several kills that helped her team edge ahead. Despite a late push by UNC Pembroke, including a kill by Abby Peduzzi to close the gap to 24-23, Sydney Stigler's final kill secured the set for Lees-McRae, ending at 25-23.
SET 2 I 28-26 Lees-McRae took an early 3-0 lead, capitalizing on a service ace and a couple of errors by the Braves. Addie Decker provided a consistent offensive effort for the Braves, tallying multiple kills, including one to tie the score at 8-8. Savannah Whaley and McKenna Hayes contributed crucial points late in the set, with Savannah Whaley's block and a kill from McKenna Hayes to the scores tight. The set concluded with Abby Peduzzi securing a kill to give UNC Pembroke set point, and Sydney Stigler's attack error sealed the victory for the Braves.
SET 3 I 25-22 Kaitlyn Koel and McKenna Hayes each contributed key kills, including a crucial kill from McKenna Hayes that tied the score at 15-15. Lees-McRae managed to keep the set competitive, with Syndey Stigler leading their attack, yet service errors proved costly. A service ace by Isabella Dillman extended UNC Pembroke's lead to 23-20, and Savannah Whaley clinched the set with a kill. 
SET 4 I 24-26 The set saw multiple lead changes as both teams capitalized on errors, with the Bobcats benefiting from two early attack errors by the Braves to take a 4-1 lead. UNC Pembroke rallied to tie the score at 17-17, highlighted by a service ace from Tyler Patterson. Despite a late surge by UNC Pembroke, who managed to equalize the score at 24-24 with back-to-back kills from Addie Decker, Lees-McRae clinched the set with a decisive kill by Sydney Stables.
SET 4 I 8-15 Lees-McRae quickly established dominance with a 5-0 lead, capitalizing on attack errors by the Braves. Syndey Stables contributed significantly, recording multiple kills, including one at 3-0 and another at 9-1. Clara Duarte and Rebecca Ryan also added crucial points for Lees-McRae, who maintained their advantage throughout. Despite efforts from UNC Pembroke, the hosts secured the match in the fifth set.
