Chowan Sweeps Volleyball

MURFREESBORO – Chowan hit .174 from the net and forced the UNC Pembroke volleyball team into 24 attack errors to help the Hawks to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) sweep over the Braves on Wednesday evening at Bob Burke Court. 
 
The setback for the Braves (8-7, 5-2 CC) marks the second consecutive loss and fall to 2-3 when playing away from Pembroke. The victory for the Hawks (4-13, 3-6 CC) marked just the second win all-time against UNCP in the 17-game series.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 21-25 UNC Pembroke initially gained a 2-0 lead with an ace from Brette Doile followed by Abby Peduzzi's multiple kills, helped the Braves score early points. However, Chowan capitalized on several service errors by the Braves, leveling the score at 8-8. Midway through the set, the Hawks gained momentum with decisive plays, including service aces and kills by Anna Holcombe and Makeda Edwards, extending their lead. UNCP tried to rally with a kill from Savannah Whaley and Abby Peduzzi, but the hosts maintained the opening set. 
SET 2 I 22-25 Chowan started strong with a service run, including two aces, to grab a 5-1 lead. Anna Holcombe played a key role, adding multiple kills to extend their lead to 10-3. The Braves narrowed the gap with a series of kills by Abby Peduzzi and Savannah Whaley, cutting the deficit back to 15-13. However, the Hawks responded with further points from Anna Holcombe and capitalized on UNCP attack errors. A late push by UNC Pembroke, driven by kills from Deorri Gaines and McKenna Hayes slowed Chowan, but the hosts took set two. 
SET 3 I 20-25 Savannah Whaley scored the first point with a kill, but Chowan responded with a balanced attack, capitalizing on UNCP's service and attack errors to maintain a narrow lead. Despite a service ace by Isabella Dillman that helped UNCP close the gap to 8-5, the Hawks pulled ahead with a series of blocks from Madison Henderson, extending their lead to 14-9. Abby Peduzzi's multiple kills kept the Braves competitive, drawing them within one point at 17-18. However, Chowan's consistent pressure and a final kill from Holcombe secured the match.
