Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With Senior Day Win Over Barton

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke struck for two-first half goals and allowed just four total shots from Barton to take a 2-0 win on Senior Day in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at LREMC Stadium.

Mercy Bell etched her name into the record book with her first-half score, becoming the program's all-time leading goal scorer with her 45th career goal. Maya McDonald tacked on the second UNCP goal, while Leila Utate, Eugenie Amidou, and Jasmin Diop each recorded an assist.

Addison Ellsworth made two saves to earn her ninth clean sheet of the season.

The Braves (9-6-1, 9-3-1 CC) improved to 17-3-2 in the all-time series with the Buldogs (4-11-1, 3-9-1 CC). 

 
SCORING SUMMARY
3' Leila Utate's long pass ahead connected with Mercy Bell, who cut back, got free for a shot, and fired a strike side net for her record-breaking goal and to give the Braves a quick 1-0 lead.
85' Jasmin Diop's service into the box found Eugenie Amidou, whose pass ahead found the foot of Maya McDonald, who turned and blasted a shot over the head of the Barton goalkeeper to stretch the lead to 2-0.

+ Maya McDonald and Mercy Bell led the way with a goal apiece.

+ Mercy Bell tallied her 45th career goal, breaking the school career record previously held by Melanie Cobb and current assistant coach, Anna Grossheim.
+ UNCP held Barton to zero shots in the second half.
   
UP NEXT
The win secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament, where the Braves will host the winner of No. 6 Chowan and No. 11 Ferrum on Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at LREMC Stadium.
