Soccer Advances To Conference Championship Semifinals With Win Over Ferrum

PEMBROKE – UNC Pembroke tallied 25 shots and got a brace from Mercy Bell en route to a 3-1 win over Ferrum in Conference Carolinas Championship quarterfinals action Saturday night at LREMC Stadium.

Eli Soderberg and Jasmin Diop each recorded an assist in the victory, as the Braves move on to face No. 2 seed Belmont Abbey in the tournament semifinals on November 14.

The Braves (10-6-1) improved to 3-0-0 in the all-time series with the Panthers (8-9-2). 

 
SCORING SUMMARY
32' Mercy Bell collected a loose ball and fought off a Ferrum defender to shake free for a shot and fired a strike into the back of the net to put the Braves up 1-0.
54' Eli Soderberg's long pass ahead found a streaking Bell, who cut back and cracked a left-footed shot side net to stretch the lead to 2-0. 
81' Jasmin Diop's corner kick service found the head of Freya Lodge Whitham, who redirected it home past the Ferrum goalkeeper to make it 3-0. 
82' Ferrum's Amber Nichole Gillen was taken down in the box and would make good on the ensuing penalty kick to cut the lead to 3-1.

+ Mercy Bell logged match highs in shots (seven) and shots on goal (four) to go along with her two goals.
+ Eli Soderberg and Jasmin Diop each recorded an assist.
NOTABLES
+ Bell tallied her 46th and 47th career goals, while also logging her 13th career multi-goal match.
+ UNCP out-shot Ferrum 25-6 and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

+ The Braves advanced to the Conference Carolinas Championship semifinals for the fifth-consecutive year.

UNCP will be back in action Friday, November 14 as they head to Browns Summit to take on No. 2 seeded Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas Championship semifinals. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Truist Soccer Complex at Bryan Park.
