Men’s Basketball Routs Emmanuel

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team held the lead for 96.6 percent of the contest and shot 56.4 percent from the field on the way to a 92-81 victory over Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves (13-6, 11-2 CC) have now won their last two games and improve to 7-1 when playing at home this season. The setback for the Lions (13-8, 11-2 CC) snapped a five-game win streak and fall to 5-4 on the road this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Emmanuel took its only lead of the night 2-0, with a Kendall Latney layup 50 seconds into the contest, but UNC Pembroke answered with an 11-2 run capped off with a three from Bradlee Haskell at the 17:17 mark. The Lions worked their deficit back to 11-8, but the Braves used an 11-3 run finished off with a layup from JaJuan Carr to push the UNCP lead out to 22-11 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Tavarus Webb stopped the UNCP run with a layup, but the Braves put together a 16-6 run to take their largest lead of the night, 38-19, with a jumper from Ant Abraham with just under three minutes left to play in the first half. Emmanuel scored the final six points of the frame, but UNC Pembroke held a 38-25 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. 
2ND HALF
Emmanuel worked its deficit back to 43-34 with a fast break layup from Kendall Latney two minutes into the half, but Bradlee Haskell hit back-to-back triples to push the UNC Pembroke lead out to 49-36 moments later. Chris Dees knocked down a three as the Lions continued to cut away at their deficit, 60-48, but buckets from Joe'l Pettiford and Dallas Gardner cushioned the score for the Braves, 64-48 with 9:50 remaining in regulation. Emmanuel shot 57.5 percent from the field during the half and used a 3-pointer from Isaac Jones to trail just 78-66 with three minutes remaining in regulation. Quay Watson's fast break layup put UNCP ahead 85-70 with 1:26 on the clock, but an 8-0 Emmanuel run cut the hosts lead back to 85-78 with one minute left to play. The Braves scored six-straight points to help fuel the outcome. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell finished with a game-high 29 points highlighted by a 6-for-10 clip from the perimeter. The senior finished with six rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal in 37 minutes of work. 
+ Joe'l Pettiford added 18 points on an 8-for-10 shooting performance. The redshirt junior nearly posted a double-double with eight rebounds in 27 minutes of action. 
+ JaJuan Carr chipped in 17 points on a 7-for-13 shooting clip. The senior pulled down three rebounds, had five assists, and a pair of steals as well. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 56.4 percent from the field. The Braves also shot 47.4 percent from the perimeter. 
+ The Black & Gold held the lead for 38:39 of Saturday's contest. 
+ UNCP scored 28 points from 15 Emmanuel turnovers. 
+ The Braves outscored the Lions 42-36 with points in the paint. 
UP NEXT
The Braves will welcome Francis Marion to town on Monday for the Battle of I-95. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
