Men’s Basketball Too Much For Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team never trailed and had scoring from 10 different players on the way to a dominating 111-67 victory over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon inside Tysinger Gymnasium. 
 
The Braves (18-6, 15-2 CC) have now won their last seven games and improve to 3-0 when playing Southern Wesleyan in South Carolina. The Warriors (8-17, 4-13 CC) have now lost their last four games and are just 1-7 all-time against UNC Pembroke.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
UNC Pembroke scored the first six points of the contest, but Southern Wesleyan's Aaron Tims made a layup to make it 6-2 at the 16:50 mark in the opening half. Bradlee Haskell canned a three to send the Braves on a 14-4 run capped off with a dunk from Dallas Gardner to push the UNCP lead out to 20-4 with 12:41 on the clock. Reco Hallmon made good on a layup to stop the run, but UNC Pembroke's Josh Berenbaum knocked down a three to spark a 17-4 surge and pushed the Braves lead out to 37-10 with 6:52 remaining in the half. UNCP shot 58.5 percent from the floor during the frame and held a commanding 54-23 lead as the teams headed into the locker room. 
2ND HALF
The Braves cushioned their lead, 66-29 with a fastbreak dunk from Joe'l Pettiford just three minutes into the half. Ceejay Jordan made good on a triple to whittle the Southern Wesleyan deficit back to 66-32, but a 13-5 UNC Pembroke run capped off with a three from Elijah Cobb pushed the score out to 79-37 with 12:39 left to play in regulation. The hosts tried to cut into their deficit, 87-48, with a three from Bobby Taylor, but the Braves put together a 22-14 run to take their largest lead of the contest, 109-62 with a three from Ant Abraham with just under two minutes left to play. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Joe'l Pettiford recorded his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. The redshirt junior had one block and one steal as well. 
+ Josh Berenbaum finished with a game-high 19 points on an 8-for-10 shooting performance. Berenbaum grabbed four rebounds and dished out a pair of assists in 21 minutes of work. 
+ Ant Abraham matched a career-high with 10 points highlighted by a 2-for-3 clip from the perimeter. The graduate student recorded four assists and pulled down three rebounds. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot 56.1 percent from the field, while Southern Wesleyan shot 41.4 percent from the floor.
+ The Braves never trailed during Saturday's contest. 
+ The Black & Gold posted a 60-32 advantage with points in the paint and a 27-6 advantage with second chance points. 
+ UNCP finished Saturday's contest holding a 57-21 advantage on the class. It is the best rebounding margin in more than 15 years. 
UP NEXT
The Braves will will play their final road game of the regular season on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Florence to take on Francis Marion in the Battle of I-95. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Smith University Center.
