Sharp Shooting Helps Men’s Basketball By North Greenville

PEMBROKE – The UNC Pembroke men's basketball team shot a season-high 62.3 percent from the field and scored 44 points in the paint on the way to an 88-70 victory over North Greenville on Saturday at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 
 
The Braves (20-6, 17-2 CC) have now won their last nine games and improve to 7-4 all-time against North Greenville, winning the last six meetings. The Trailblazers (9-18, 5-14 CC) have now lost their last 11 out of their last 12 games and are now 4-9 when playing on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
North Greenville took what would be its largest lead of the afternoon, 6-0, to start the game, but UNC Pembroke put together an 8-0 run capped off with a three from Dallas Gardner to take a slight 8-6 lead at the 16:33 mark. The Braves put together a 7-0 surge polished off with a fast break layup from Quay Watson to push the UNCP lead out to 23-17 with just under 10 minutes to play, but the Trailblazers scored the next five points to file their deficit back 23-22 with 8:51 on the clock. Bradlee Haskell knocked down a three to spark the hosts on a 13-2 run that ended with a three from Quay Watson to give the Braves a 36-24 lead at the five-minute mark. NGU outscored UNCP 11-10 in the final minutes, but Bradlee Haskell's triple ended the half and sent the teams to the locker rooms with the Braves leading 46-35.
2ND HALF
North Greenville started the period on an 18-10 run to whittle its deficit back to 56-53 after a pair of free throws from Michael Wilson, Jr. seven minutes into the half. A 13-1 run from the Braves pushed their lead out to 69-54 following a layup from Quay Watson with 7:05 remaining in regulation. NGU cut its deficit back to 72-59, but UNCP went out on a 16-5 run to take its largest lead of the contest, 88-64, following a three from Bradlee Haskell with 1:19 left to play in the game. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
+ Bradlee Haskell finished with 22 points on an 8-for-13 shooting performance. The senior had four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 37 minutes of work. 
+ Quay Watson came off of the bench and turned in a career-high 18 points on a 7-for-9 clip. The freshman dished out four assists, had three steals and one rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
+ JaJuan Carr poured in 17 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the perimeter. The senior pulled down three rebounds, had a pair of assists, along with one steal and one block. 
NOTABLES
+ UNC Pembroke shot a season-high 62.3 percent from the field and held the lead for 84.4 percent of Saturday's contest. 
+ UNCP was 12-for-19 from the free throw line while NGU finished 22-of-30 from the charity stripe. 
+ The Black & Gold scored 23 points from 11 North Greenville turnovers. 
+ The Braves posted a 44-22 advantage with points in the paint and a 10-0 advantage on second chance points. 
+ UNCP has now made double-digit 3-pointers in the last seven games. 
UP NEXT
The Braves will honor their 2025 senior class prior to the start of Wednesday's regular season finale against Mount Olive. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
